Matilde Para José Seijas 1600 900 Michel Arlia

The Matilde Para José Seijas is a limited edition release from Matilde Cigars. The brand was founded by José A. Seijas and his son Enrique after José retired in 2012 from his long tenure as general manager at Tabacalera de García in La Romana, Dominican Republic. José passed away in November 2024 from Parkinson’s Disease, and the Para José Seijas was conceived by Enrique as a tribute to his father.

The cigar is limited to 750 20-ct boxes per year and features Dominican binder and fillers, under an Ecuadorian wrapper. Tabacalera La Isla handles production. A portion of the proceeds is donated to the Parkinson’s Foundation in the Dominican Republic.

The cigar is rolled in a smooth Colorado wrapper, with only a few small veins present. The filling is generous, and the overall construction is excellent.

Matilde Para José Seijas: The cold draw reveals aromas of wood and spices. Once lit, the cigar opens with a combination of cappuccino, hazelnut, and white pepper.

Further into the first third, the cappuccino, hazelnut, and white pepper notes are joined by hints of leather. The smoke is creamy. The strength is a solid medium (3/5).

A balsamic nuance is added to the profile in the second third, enriching the flavor profile of cappuccino, hazelnut, and leather. The strength remains unchanged (3/5).

The flavor profile grows in intensity in the last third, while a light bitterness comes through as well. The strength grows to a medium-full level (4/5).

Overall, the Matilde Para José Seijas is a balanced and smooth smoke, especially in the first two thirds. The bitterness in the last third makes for a slightly rough finish, though a bit of extra time in the humidor should take care of that.
