The Tatuaje Cojonú 2018 is part of the Cojonú line from Tatuaje Cigars, created by Pete Johnson in 2003 and traditionally released every three years. The 2018 vitola is one of the two “Lost Years” releases and was launched in 2023.

Cojonú is a shortened form of the Spanish word cojonudo, Cuban slang for ballsy, a nod to the line’s reputation for strength.

The cigar is dressed up in an oily Colorado Maduro wrapper that is silky to the touch. The overall construction is excellent.

Tatuaje Cojonú 2018: the cold draw reveals a mix of earth and cocoa scents. The opening confirms the cocoa, now recalling more cocoa beans.

The first third is a combination of cocoa beans, earth, and spices, with a rich black pepper aroma that builds quickly. The strength is medium-full (4/5).

In the second third, cocoa and black pepper continue to alternate, with a touch of earth. The finish is very long and has a satisfying tangerine note. The strength doesn’t change (4/5).

The final third confirms the black pepper, now less intense but still the protagonist, flanked by herbal and vegetal aromas. There is also a touch of nuts present. The strength is steady (4/5), and the finale is well-balanced.

Overall, the Tatuaje Cojonú 2018 is a rich and intense cigar, delivering a deep flavor profile with an evolution mainly perceivable in the last part of the smoke. Complex and with a finish that seems to be everlasting. It is no wonder it made our 2024 awards.
