Romeo y Julieta Capuletos EL 2016

Romeo y Julieta Capuletos EL 2016 300 167 Luca Cominelli

Romoe y Julieta Capuletos is the limited edition, from 2016, of this famous brand. However, they were not released until the beginning of 2017, with the usual delay that comes with all the latest releases, and limited releases (Reservas, Gran Reservas, LE’s and RE’s, etc.), from Cuba. The Capuletos comes in a Sobresaliente size.

Visually a very appealing cigar, with a Colorado colored wrapper. Said tonality is different from box to box. Construction isn’t flawless and in some examples present some defects.

Romeo y Julieta Capuletos-3

Romeo y Julieta Capuletos EL 2016: suave notes of wood in the cold draw, almost imperceptible. The opening is almost impalpable, with a faint hint of vanilla that is almost imperceptible as well.

The first third confirms what is dreadfully equal to the first few puffs of the opening, or better a lack of character: the flavors stay very suave and almost evanescent, giving rise to particularly underdeveloped aromatic impact. Faint notes of wood, with a mild spiciness in the background, are perceptible. Strength is mild (2/5).

Romeo y Julieta Capuletos-2

In the second third, the spiciness stay in the background, but becomes slightly more present. Earth and vanilla can now be tasted. The intensity is still contained, but better then in the first third. Strength increases slightly (2,5/5).

The last third sees finally the aromatic intensity taking off, but the first notes of bitterness are revealed parallel to it. The bitterness increases the closer you get to the finale. Earth and walnut are now alternating between each other. Strength reaches the medium level (3/5).

Overall, a very subdued limited edition that, without a doubt, is the least performing of the 2016 releases. The Capuletos give rise to a contained and almost impalpable aromatic intensity. They have little character and are not very promising as far as aging goes.

It should be noted that, despite waiting a few month before reviewing these cigars, there have been no particular improvements compared to the examples tasted on the release.
