The Garcias have set up operations in Honduras, constructing a factory and growing their own tobacco. Next month, they will release their first Honduran brand: My Father Blue.
Three years ago, they purchased 360 manzanas (about 890 acres) in Talanga to cultivate Honduran tobacco and diversify My Father’s mostly Nicaraguan portfolio. They named the farm Finca La Opulencia and built a 78,000-square-foot factory, My Father Cigars Honduras, which began rolling cigars in February.
My Father Blue features a medium-to-full-bodied blend, with all the tobacco (Corojo and Criollo varietals) sourced from their farm, except for the Connecticut Rosado broadleaf wrapper. The blue packaging reflects the colors of the Honduran flag.
The line will include four sizes:
- Petit Robusto, 50 x 114mm (4 1/2″)
- Robusto, 52 x 133mm (5 1/4″)
- Toro, 54 x 152mm (6″)
- Toro Gordo, 60 x 152mm (6″)
Prices are still to be determined. My Father Blue will be displayed at the PCA trade show next month in New Orleans and is expected to ship in late May or early June.
