The opening of the Fábrica de Puros marks a significant milestone for Maya Selva Cigars, coinciding with the company’s 30th anniversary. This event is a celebration of the rich traditions of tobacco craftsmanship in Honduras.
Visitors are greeted by a stunning glass mural, Tabaco Sagrado, created by renowned artist Regina Aguilar, symbolizing the spirit of tobacco. Inside, torceadores work diligently, filling the air with the aroma of cigar production, where the essence of quality and tradition comes together to create exceptional cigars enjoyed globally.
Maya Selva Cigars produces premium brands like Flor de Selva, Cumpay, and Villa Zamorano, mainly exported to Europe and Asia. The founder’s dedication to her homeland has made a significant impact, with all production taking place in Honduras, supporting local families and contributing to the region’s development.
Despite challenges in a male-dominated industry, Maya Selva has established her brands as internationally recognized, distributed across 55 countries. The value of a fine cigar is deeply rooted in the cultural heritage of the region, with a history linked to ancient rituals. In 2016, handmade cigar craftsmanship was declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage by the National Congress of Honduras, underscoring its importance.
