Montecristo No.2

Montecristo No.2

Montecristo No.2 1600 900 Luca Cominelli

The Montecristo No.2 is a cigar that needs little introduction. It is among the most popular in the world and, after the No.4, it is the best known Montecristo cigar. From 2013 to today, all the cigars of this brand have been gradually changed to the new bands, which compared to the previous one, presents the brand’s symbol in gold, as well as other small details, which were previously white. The story of the Montecristo’s No. 2 is particularly important, and the roots are established well before the Cuban revolution.

Montecristo Nr. 2

Aesthetically, the Montecristo No.2 is a cigar that presents, like most of the popular Cuban cigars, a wide range of different shades, which varies greatly from box to box. In this specific case, they are of a Colorado shde and the wrapper is oily and silky to the touch. The construction reveals a generous and uniform filling.

Montecristo Nr. 2

Montecristo No.2: unlit, hints of cedar wood, together with a touch of earth. The opening brings notes of damp earth and vegetal nuances to the palate.

Montecristo Nr. 2

The first third opens with notes of earth and seasoned wood, which are enriched by vegetal nuances. A toasted vein is also perceptible, as well as light nutty aromas, where walnut stands out in particular. Strength is medium (3/5).

In the central section, the notes of seasoned wood and earth still present, which are enriched by an important spicy component, where black pepper is the protagonist. Some puffs also release hints of citrus, which refresh the smoke. The strength grows slightly (3.5/5).

The last third doesn’t change much from the previous third. The earthy component, however, becomes much more pronounced and comes to the foreground, joined by wood. The spices remain present in the background. The strength remains constant (3.5/5).

Overall, the Montecristo No.2 releases a smoke that mirrors the flavor profile of the Montecristo brand. The cigar is balanced, with a broad and fairly evolving profile.
