The peculiarity of the Maduro 5 line is the wrapper, aged for at least 5 years. This happens just for the wrapper and not for binder and filler.
Aethetically, it is wrapped up in a maduro shade wrapper, silky to the touch. The filling is homogeneous.
Cohiba Maduro 5 Genios: before to light it up, cocoa scents are perceivable. The opening delivers vegetal notes and appears to be a little bit acidulous.
The first third brings to the palate rich spicy notes, aged wood and cocoa. Piquant peaks get to the palate aswell. The base is sweet and the strength is medium plus (3,5/5). The persistence is remarkable in this first sector.
In the second third the cocoa becomes the main aroma, followed by vegetal notes and spices in the aftertaste. The base is still sweet, but less if compared to the first third. The strength reaches a medium to full level (4/5).
The last part turns to earth and black pepper notes. There are also some piquant peaks and a little bit of honey. The base stays slightly sweet. The strength doesn’t change. The finale delivers rich piquant spices.
Overall a balanced smoke, with a good aromatic intensity to it. The harmony is excellent and the persistence decent (in the first sector it was great but in the second half it gets way more contained).
