Villiger Cigars has launched its newest creation, the San Martín.
The brand is inspired by José de San Martín. He was a South American revolutionary and, alongside Simón Bolívar, the most important independence fighter against Spanish colonial rule in South America. A national hero of Argentina, Chile, and Peru, he led the legendary crossing of the Andes in 1817, which led to the liberation of Chile (1818) and Peru (1821). After a historic meeting with Bolívar in Guayaquil, Ecuador, in 1822, he ceded leadership of the liberation to him. To avoid a civil war, he withdrew from political life and went into exile in France, where he died in 1850.
Each rolled cigar is aged for at least four to six months. The oldest tobacco used was purchased in 2020. Matias Maragoto, president of ABAM Cigars SRL factory in the Dominican Republic, personally oversaw the quality and assigned only a small group of his cigar rollers to produce only around 350 cigars a day per pair. The blend has not been disclosed yet.
The San Martín line comes in three sizes:
- Churchill: 7 x 48 (17€ per cigar)
- Piramide: 6 x 52 (17.50€ per cigar)
- Robusto: 4 7/8 x 50 (15.50€ per cigar), also comes in a Tubo (17.50€)
They are all packaged in 20-ct boxes, with the Tubo coming in 3-ct cardboard packs. San Martín is already available in Germany and Switzerland.
