German Engineered Cigars (GEC) from Hamburg has launched AKUT, the first premium cigar packaged in pharmaceutical-style blister packaging. Available in two blends:
- RVGN Extrem: A Mexican Cuban-Seed wrapper, over a Dominican binder, and fillers from the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua
- Kraftwerk: A Mexican San Andrés wrapper and binder, over an all Dominican filler.
This packaging is designed with precision, featuring aluminum cavities and a humorous package insert listing “side effects” like “Unexpected emotional alignment.” Both blends come in the same 50 x 102mm (4″) Petite Robusto size. The Extreme is made by Intercigar S.A. in the DR, while the Kraftwerk is made at La Isla, also in the DR:
Co-Founder Oliver Nickels emphasized that this packaging protects individual cigars without needing a humidor and effectively delivers product information. AKUT will debut at PCA 2026 in New Orleans from April 17-20 and will be available through U.S. and global distribution soon after.
