Freud Cigar Co. is celebrating the birthday of its namesake, Sigmund Freud, with the first release of the Freud Sigmund Chapter One: The Disruptor Limited Edition. Sigmund Freud, the Austrian neurologist and founder of psychoanalysis, was also a well-known cigar aficionado. A series is planned to honor Freud’s birthday. The cigars will be released around May 6 each year.

They were blended by Eladio Diaz, who also produced the cigars at his Tabacalera Diaz Cabrera factory in the Dominican Republic. Pricing is set at $42 per cigar or $420 for a box of ten. Production is limited to 3,500 boxes.

The cigar is dressed in a silky Colorado-colored wrapper that is smooth to the touch. Construction is good, and the filling is uniform.

Freud Sigmund Chapter One The Disruptor Limited Edition: The cold draw reveals scents of milk chocolate—the first few puffs alternate seasoned wood, earth, and vegetal notes.

The first third delivers black pepper, roasted wood, vegetal notes, and a mix of spices, with nutmeg, ginger, and star anise. The strength is medium-full (4/5).

In the second third, some burning issues begin to appear. Multiple relights are necessary. The flavor profile involves a little bit: now, only a mix of vegetal and wood notes is present. The strength doesn’t change (4/5).

In the last third, the flavor profile becomes harsh. The aromas and the strength are unchanged until the end of the smoke.

Overall, the Freud Sigmund Chapter One The Disruptor Limited Edition performs well in the first third but afterwards starts to involve more and more. The balance in the last third is also off. The flavor profile is broad initially, and then it gets more and more contained.
