Trinidad Robusto Extra Coleccion Vintage

Trinidad Robusto Extra Coleccion Vintage

Trinidad Robusto Extra Coleccion Vintage 750 435 Giuseppe Mitolo

The Trinidad Robusto Extra has been, since its launch in 2012, a high level product, which competed against another Cuban masterpiece, the Cohiba Siglo VI.

Between 2013 and 2014, it was also commercialized in a ceramic jar of 15 cigars, available only for the Spanish market (price was 280 Euros, with production limited to 700 jars); this has been the second release associated with the “Coleccion Vintage”. These Robustos Extra, as per the communication by the Spanish distributor, were aged for a minimum of 5 years.

Looking at the cigar it features a rather shiny, yellowish Colorado Claro wrapper. By touching it, it reveles avery good construction.

Trinidad Robusto Extra Coleccion Vintage: before lighting the cigar up, the aromas which can be detected are earth and hay, with an intense hazelnut note.

Opening is dominated by a sweet flavor. The aromatic palette is complex and delivers a dominat hazelnut note, followed by coffee and wood bark, together with balsamic herbs in background. Strength is light to medium (2/5) and the cigar is quite balanced. Burn is slightly irregular, and some corrections are required.

In the second third sweetness is mitigated by minor salty and acidic hints, which makes for a good balance. Evolution seems evident: coffee and honey notes reach the palate, followed by a less evident note of wood bark and some leather nuances. Strength stay constant (2/5).

The last third is dominated by sweet and salty flavors. Coffee is paired by spices, while honey goes into the background, together with wood bark and leather notes. Strength increases, becoming medium (3/5).

Even though this Robusto Extra has to be positively considered for its outstanding balance and aromatic intensity, something more was expected in terms of complexity and in particular regarding the evolution. Also, the aromas given off in the last segment were not fully coherent with the Trinidad aromatic bouquet. It is however a nice product to keep in humidor.
