Toscano Originale Italia 1891

Toscano Originale Italia 1891

Toscano Originale Italia 1891 1600 900 Giuseppe Mitolo

The new Tocano Originale Italia 1891 is proposed to the public as a variant of the well known Toscano Orginale. However, what differentiates the two products lies in the wrapper. A Kentucky leaf grown in Valtiberina is used, instead of the usual North American (used for the Original). 1891 is the year the Kentucky tobacco was officially introduced among the cultivation of Italian tobacco.

Toscano Italia 1891

Once the two-cigar pack is opened, which is very reminiscent of the Originale, the cigars are very similar. However, the watchful eye of a Kentucky smoker, will catch a slightly bolder wrapper than the usual North American one, which is considered excellent for the wrapper. The color is an opaque brown with red reflections. Construction is more than good, while the draw varies between the regular and the slightly open.

Toscano Italia 1891

Toscano Originale Italia 1891: in the cold draw of the cigar, a well-defined note of wood and hints of earth and leather is perceivable.

Toscano Italia 1891

The opening is delicately sapid and the flavors are revealed after a few puffs, nuts and wood, with a hints of leather. Strength is medium-light (2/5).

Continuing, the initial flavor remains unchanged. The wood and the nuts remain unchanged, while the leather note is replaced by an earthy component. Strength remains unchanged (2/5).

Overall, we cannot hide a certain surprise in smoking a cigar completely different from the Toscano Originale. The Valtiberina wrapperwould have had to bring greater strength to the cigar. However, the cigar happens to be even lighter than the Originale.

However, having overcome this (unfair, perhaps) comparison, the product is pleasant, with a pronounced intensity and a contained strength. Probably an excellent middle ground for those who want to approach cigars with more strength and intensity. However, what is lacking in this Originale Italia 1891, in addition to a broader flavor profile (especially in the central section), is the absence of an acidic or bitter component, that would have made it more incisive on the palate. Without any of these components the cigar risks appearing a little monotonous.
