Laphroaig Quarter Cask

Laphroaig Quarter Cask

Laphroaig Quarter Cask 2068 1164 Luca Cominelli

The Laphroaig Quarter Cask is a Scotch whisky belonging to the NAS category (No Age Statement), which means products for which aging is not declared. Translated: the maturation is all but long.

This Laphroaig is matured in smaller barrels than usual, and these are called Quarter Cask. By using this type of cask, the wooden surface in contact with the distillate is much greater than what occurs in traditional barrels (about 5 times bigger) and this means that the wood yields more aromas to the distillate in a shorter time.

TASTING NOTES – LAPHROAIG QUARTER CASK

Nose

Rich peaty aromas are the first to reach the nose, followed by young wood. Then citrus (lemon and lime) get developed, together with smoky and spicynotes.

Palate

The peaty and smoky notes are intense, accompanied by liquorice, wood and iodine. The wood spices are still present and now the flavor profile is joined by aromatic herbs.

Finish

Medium-long persistency. It delivers young wood, peat, spices and liquorice.

Overall, the Laphroaig Quarter Cask is bottled with a nice ABV. Intense, fresh and enjoyable, it is satisfying despite all its youthfulness. It is not a meditation whiskey, but it is rather simple to appreciate.
