The Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Especial was presented to the world in 2008, although as early as 2004, it had been released as that year’s limited edition. The Vitola de Galera is Gordito.
It is sold in Slide Lid Boxes of 10 and 25 counts and in three-count aluminum tube packs. In 2012 the packaging in SLB of 50 was withdrawn from the market.
It usually comes in a bright Colorado wrapper with red reflections, sometimes even with darker shades. To the touch, its pretty smooth with relatively light veins. The workmanship is great, as is the draw.

Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Especial: unlit, aromas of wood and nuts can be made out, enriched with spicy nuances.
The opening brings a delicately sapid but also sweet smoke to the palate. It reveals notes of nuts, followed by less marked hints of spices and wood. Strength is medium (2/5).
In the central section, the sapidity takes hold while the sweetness dissolves. The profile brings well-defined notes of earth and wood, followed by nuances of leather and spices, to the palate. Strength becomes medium (3/5).
In the last third, the sapidity remains unchanged while there are powerful aromas of wood, followed by less evident earthy characters and leather nuances. Strength remains unchanged, although, in some samples, it could become medium-full (4/5).
The Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Especial ultimately offers a satisfying smoke, thanks to a perfect balance between strength and flavors. The evolution is very respectable, although it offers fewer variations in the last third than in the central part.
