Diageo, one of the biggest beverage multinational company, will bring back to life the legendary distilleries of Brora and Port Ellen. Both closed in 1983, they produced the most sought after whiskies amongst collectors.
Thanks to an investment of 35 million pounds, they will begin distilling again in 2020 and they will be Diageo’s smallest distilleries, with an annual output of 800’000 litres of pure alcohol.
The aim of the two distilleries, Port Ellen on the island of Islay and Brora in the Highlands, is to reproduce the medium peated character of the iconic whiskies so that they will be available to a wider public.
