#5 – The Macallan 18 Years Old Triple Cask

The Macallan 18 Years Old Triple Cask

The Macallan 18 Years Old Triple Cask

COUNTRY: Scotland
ABV (PROOF): 43% (86)
PRICE: $ 259 | € – 250
TYPE: Single Malt

This new version of the classic 18yo has been matured in a combination of European sherry casks, and American sherry and bourbon casks. It’s bottled at 46% ABV and presents a great overall balance. As for every whisky in their top range, Macallan uses the special Minstrel barley variety grown in their historical estate on the banks of the river Spey.

Scents of ripe fruit are followed by vanilla and spices. The ripe fruit is confirmed to the palate, making its way on a sweet and slightly spicy base. Custard and a touch of citrus. Medium long finish.

HOW ARE THE AWARDS MADE

Among the whiskies tested during the year in blind tastings and reviews, those that scored the best got selected. These products were then tested once again in a new blind tasting, which means not knowing what they are during the tasting. The only indication on the sample concerns the ABV content: a red mark states that the product has an ABV higher than 50% (100° proof).  The test results are then compared and the TOP 10 is made.

Since 2016 CigarsLover Magazine releases the top 10 whiskeis of the year. This list, together with the Daily Dram (the best quality/price products) will be published in detail on the Winter 2019 issue of CigarsLover Magazine.
