The history of the Trinidad began sometime in 1969 at the El Laguito factory in Havana, at first a kept secret, a “hush-hush” gift to foreign diplomats and dignitaries, of which even Fidel Castro would not speak words of when asked about. The general public only began hearing rumors of the brand in the early 1990s. Finally, in 1998, Habanos released the Trinidad Fundadores and, since then, has tried to preserve the exclusivity attached to the brand. Tonight (19 September 2026) at the Fairmont Le Montreux Palace, more precisely the Petit Palais, Intertabak AG, the official importer of Habanos for Switzerland and Liechtenstein, is revealing the Trinidad Vigía Reserva Cosecha 2022.
Arriving at the Petit Palais, the welcoming staff collected the invitations and handed out a numbered black brushed metal card that read “THE TRINIDAD SOCIETY”, with underneath “Fumo igni tempori”, and as a starter, one could pick up a Trinidad Esmeralda. Entering the hall, an angel clad in white robes, mimicking a siren calling us in, tempting the guests to come forth and enjoy their stay while she balanced herself back and forth on a human size pendulum.
The evening was themed in many ways; some were in plain sight, others revealed themselves like trickles of water, little by little later that evening as conversations were exchanged. On a cramped terrace, cigar in hand and a flute in the other, we gave way to a presentation and guidance for what was to come. The satin black curtains opened, revealing the second course: the Trinidad Villa and the dining area centered around a stage where a duet was giving their interpretation of 90s and early 2000s pop classics, accompanied by a jazz band. One barbie doll in a little black dress flew to the sky to tell us what she wants, what she really really wants under a moon made of plastic, I guess you had to be there.
After the meal, the main course of the evening, the long-awaited Trinidad Vigía Reserva Cosecha 2022 was finally handed out to the attendees. Some were quick to put them away in their ostrich leather travel humidor for safekeeping or for smoking at a later date. Others like myself had to know if there was some fuss to be had about this new Reserva. As stated by the name, the cigar started its journey 4 years ago, so time and rest are already part of the equation. First impression? The flavor profile in itself was spot on. Unfortunately, my cigar had some combustion issues and was canoeing a little. We will definitely do a full review of said cigar.
I had great conversations that evening with different people who all had their stories to share; some were of excitement, some of concerns, some of disappointment, and others of hope. Those are the joys of taking part in these events, meeting new people and discovering our shared passion, a snapshot in time with a cigar in hand.
