Montecristo Open Slam 1600 900 Michel Arlia

The Montecristo Open Slam is the newest addition to Montecristo’s Open line, the golf-inspired line known for being milder than the regular Montecristo line.

It was originally revealed in 2023, but as it has become the custom with releases from Habanos SA, they didn’t show up until earlier this year. In Cuban factories, the vitola is known as Idilicos.

The cigar is dressed in a pale Colorado wrapper that is smooth to the touch, with only a few very small veins present. Construction appears to be good, while the draw is a bit on the tighter side.

Montecristo Open Slam: The cold draw reveals sweet and herbal nuances. Once lit, the cigar starts out with nuts, woody nuances, and a hint of white pepper.

The combination of nuts and wood are established as the main flavors in the first third, with the white pepper far in the background. The strength is medium-light (2/5).

The white pepper note grows in intensity in the second third, while a leather nuance starts coming through. Strength-wise, it is still on a medium-light level.

In the last third, the leather note increases slightly in intensity, while the rest of the profile remains unchanged. The strength grows to a solid medium level (3/5).

Overall, the Montecristo Open Slam is in line with what the Open line tries to do, creating an approachable yet still enjoyable smoke. It is not the most complex or evolving experience, but its straightforwardness can still be appreciated.
