Il Cohiba 1966, così chiamato per commemorare il 45° anniversario dalla nascita di questa marca, è sicuramente l’Edizione Limitata 2011 più prestigiosa, sia per la marca che porta, sia per le dimensioni ed il prezzo di venditaIl formato è canonazo especial T: cepo 52x166mm di lunghezza. Le fasce che sono state impiegate per le capas di questi sigari si presentano di un colore colorado maduro, ed i sigari sono ben riempiti. La costruzione al tatto è eccellente, come è eccellente l’impatto visivo che si ha aprendo una scatola di questi Cohiba.

Cohiba 1966 EL 2011: il sigaro è ben riempito. Dopo averlo forato col puncher decido di allargare l’apertura alla testa in quanto il tiraggio è leggermente troppo serrato. Dopo aver utilizzato la ghigliottina il tiraggio resta leggermente serrato, ma personalmente prediligo questo tipo di tiraggio. A crudo note floreali. L’apertura è dolce, sentori di nocciola e delle leggerissime spezie pregiate, pepe bianco, sono appena percettibili. L’ingresso è delicato, dolce. Nel primo tercio gli aromi si fanno subito ricchi: terra, note di nocciola e spezie in retrogusto, pepe bianco. La forza è media + (3,5/5). Proseguendo nel primo tercio compare un forte aroma di legno stagionato, che sovrasta altri sapori, e permea l’intero palato. Questo aroma resta bene marcato per tutto il tercio. Nel passaggio al secondo tercio, riaffiorano le spezie, ma il loro ingresso non è predominante, rimangono in sottofondo. Proseguendo nei puff si presentano aromi di legno stagionato e pepe nero. La forza cala leggermente, portandosi sui 3/5. La persistenza dopo ogni puff è notevole. La dolcezza permea ogni puff, ma non è una dolcezza allappante. Superata la metà del sigaro, giungono al palato note di nocciola e cacao, e nuovamente legno stagionato. Il passaggio al terzo tercio avviene con note balsamiche, che durano solo qualche puff. Successivamente aromi di caffè e cacao divengono sempre più marcati. La forza incremente sui 4,5/5. Il finale è tostato e gli ultimi puff sono poderosi in quanto a forza ed aromi tostati. La cenere è molto compatta, sinonimo della grande qualità del tabacco impiegato. La paletta aromatica che sviluppa questo sigaro è decisamente fuori dagli standard cohiba, e la stessa dolcezza si presenta diversa da quella fresca e tipica del brand. Il braciere non è troppo regolare e sono state necessarie alcune correzioni nell’arco della fumata.
Il sigaro è complesso e gli aromi sono molto stagionati e rotondi. Nonostante non sia un sigaro invecchiato è già pronto, ma sicuramente il tempo sarà in grado di migliorare questo canonazo especial.

The Cohiba 1966 is named like this to commemorate the 45° anniversary of Cohiba, established in 1966. This is the most prestigious 2001 Limited edition, due to its brand, size and price.
The vitola of the 1966 is canonazo especial T: cepo 52x166mm length. The wrappers used to make these cigars are colorado maduro color, and the cigars are well filled. Touching the cigars, you can notice that the construction is excellent, and once the box is open they look pretty amazing.

Cohiba 1966 EL 2011: the cigar is well filled, the draw is a bit closed. After having used the puncher, I opted to cut it again with the cutter, to increase the area of the cut, to have a better draw. Even after this, the draw is still a bit closed, but I like this kind of draw. Smelling it when it’s still not light up, I can pick up floral notes. The opening is sweet, with light notes of hazelnut and a bit of fine spices, white pepper. The first puffs are delicate. At the beginning of the first third the cigar brings to the palate aromas of earth, hazelnut and spices (white pepper). The strength is medium + (3,5/5). Getting more into the FT a strong aroma of seasoned wood come up. This flavor will be the main aroma for all the FT. Going into the second third the spices come back, but they are light. Puff after puff my taste buds pick up seasoned wood and black pepper flavors. The strength loses a bit of power (3/5). After every puff the persistence of the aromas is really strong. The cigar is sweet, but not too much, just the right. After the middle part of the cigar, hazelnut and cocoa come up, and then seasoned wood again. The transit into the third third brings some balsamic notes to it, but this flavor last just few puffs. After this rich aromas of coffee and cocoa will stay almost until the end of the cigar. The strength now is medium to full (4,5/5). In the last puffs roasted flavors are the last aromas that excite my taste buds. The ash is really solid, synonymous of the tobacco quality used in this stick. The aromas that come out from this 1966 are not the usual Cohiba brand flavors, and also the sweetness is different. The cigar burned a bit unevenly, and I had to correct the burn several times. Overall, the cigar flavors are complex and seasoned, despite the young age of this cigar. For sure the aging process will provide to make it better. Score 91/100.
