The Ben Nevis distillery, owned by the Japanese Nikka company, is located on the western side of Scotland, at the foot of the mountain of the same name in the Highlands. It is known as the last distillery in Scotland to use brewery yeast instead of the more common distillation yeast. In addition, Ben Nevis spirits are an important part of many blended whiskeys.

TASTING NOTES – BEN NEVIS 7 yo 2013 – 2020 WILSON & MORGAN

Nose

On the nose, it is immediately consistent with the distillery, with orange peel in the foreground. Vinous. There is a marked presence of raisins and candied fruit present, whose union recalls Panettone. Slightly dry, probably due to the influence of the Sherry Oloroso barrel. Also, apricot and malted cereal. Young and somewhat rustic, but very pleasant.

Palate

On the palate, it has a good creaminess. It expressed notes of the omnipresent candied orange, apricot, and peach. Fresh and persuasive in its pleasant simplicity.

Finish

The finish is of medium persistence and circles around orange and raisins.

Overall, the Ben Nevis 7 yo 2013 – 2020 Wilson & Morgan is a whisky consistent with the character of the distillery. Its young age prevents it from getting high points, but it offers moments of real pleasure thanks to a remarkable creaminess and the Panettone notes. Excellent value for your money.
