Undercrown Shade Gordito

Undercrown Shade Gordito

Undercrown Shade Gordito 1600 900 Giuseppe Mitolo

The Undercrown Shade Gordito is one of the seven sizes of this line, made at the Drew Estate factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. It was presented to the world after the great success of the Undercrown Maduro line. Unlike the Maduro line, a Connecticut wrapper grown in Ecuador is used for the cigars of this line. On the other hand, Dominican Criollo 98 tobacco and Nicaraguan Criollo and Corojo leaves are used for the filler.

Almost all the cigars of the line are sold in 25-ct boxes.

Undercrown Shade Gordito

As expected, the cigar presents itself with a luminous Claro-colored wrapper, with brown reflections. To the touch, it is very smooth with barely hinted veins. Sometimes the filling has some gaps, while the draw is definitely very open. Overall, the workmanship is good.

Undercrown Shade Gordito

Undercrown Shade Gordito: on the nose, the cigar is very fragrant, with notes of ripe fruit, cocoa, and vegetal tones, among which hay stands out.

Undercrown Shade Gordito

The opening is decidedly sweet in the mouth, with a sapid nuance. The cigar expresses well-defined notes of wood, nuts, and a vegetal nuance. Strength is medium-light (2/5).

In the central section, the initial sapidity increases in intensity, becoming equal to the sweetness. The aromas become fewer in number, with only dried fruit and vegetal notes remaining. Strength does not vary (2/5).

The initial sweetness vanishes, leaving only the sapidity. The evolution brings back wood, with nuances of dried fruit and honey. Strength remains unchanged (2/5).

Overall, the Undercrown Shade Gordito is a good product. You can smoke it without too many problems, although the size might scare off new smokers. Strength is also always contained. However, it is the size itself that becomes the critical point of the cigar: the flavor profile, devoid of a major evolution, makes the smoke particularly monotonous. But if you are willing to turn a blind eye to the latter, this product is capable of giving you nearly two hours of easy smoking time.
