Plantation Rum and The Rum Co. of Fiji announced two new collaborations for September and October 2020. The releases will be one permanent and one vintage limited edition bottling. As with Plantation Rum, they will both go through double aging. First, the rums will be aged in the beautiful climate of the Fiji Islands. Then for the second round of aging, the rum will travel to the Ferrand Cellars in Cognac, France.
“Plantation Island of Fiji” is the regular production release. Distilled with molasses at The Rum Co. of Fiji. The rum is a combination Pot and column still distillation. First aged for 2-3 years in ex-bourbon barrels. Then the rum travels to France and is aged for one year in former Ferrand Cognac barrels. 750-ml bottles have a suggested retail price of $25. At the time of reading this, Plantation Island of Fiji was released in Europe in April 2020, and the USA in September 2020.
“Plantation Fiji 2005” is their vintage limited edition release. This rum was also distilled at The Rum Co. of Fiji in a triple column stills. Rum was first aged in ex-bourbon barrels for 14 years before traveling to Cognac, France, for an additional year in former French Oak Ferrand Cognac barrels. Only 28 casks were produced for this release. Bottled at a 100.4 Proof (50.2% ABV). $80 is the suggested retail pricing per 750-ml bottle. First released in Europe in July 2020. USA market release is scheduled this October 2020.
