Montecristo Open Eagle

Montecristo Open Eagle

Montecristo Open Eagle 1600 900 Giuseppe Mitolo

The Montecristo Open Eagle was presented to the public worldwide in 2009, together with three other formats (Junior, Master, and Regata). On the part of Habanos SA, the Open line had the declared intention to offer products with the typical Montecristo imprint but with a more contained strength. They are currently offered in 20 count boxes and in aluminum tubes that are sold in three-count packs.

Montecristo Open Eagle

Visually, it is rolled in a Colorado shades wrapper with dark reflections. To the touch, it is rather rough with evident but not too pronounced veins. The filling and construction are good.

Montecristo Open Eagle

Montecristo Open Eagle: unlit, rich notes of earth and spices are perceived, followed by less marked tones of cocoa and leather.

Montecristo Open Eagle

The opening is characterized by a good sapidity and a less evident sweetness. Wood stands out on a mineral and earthy base. A slight astringency appears as well. Strength is light (1/5).

In the central section, the sweetness becomes equal to the initial sapidity. Spicy sensations also appear in some puffs—mainly nuts and wood in this third. Strength increases slightly (2/5).

In the last third, the sweetness disappears to make way for a slight bitterness. Nothing changes neither in the flavor profile nor the strength (2/5).

Ultimately, the Montecristo Open Eagle actually delivers a very light smoke, featuring some aromas of the Montecristo aromatic palette. The format, added to a slightly too contracted evolution, makes the fruition a bit too monotonous. However, it is a pleasant product, able to accompany any daily activity, without engaging with too much impact.
