Ledaig 10yo

Ledaig 10yo

Ledaig 10yo 1600 900 Simone Poggi

Ledaig 10 yo is a medium peated (about 40 ppm) single malt produced at the Tobermory distillery, located on the Isle of Mull in the Hebrides. The name refers to Scottish Gaelic as a “safe harbor” and refers directly to the port of Tobermory. The distillate has gained various awards at festivals around the world in specific categories. Unlike the 18 yo, this release is aged only in ex-bourbon barrels, while the 18yo has a double aging in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry barrels.

TASTING NOTES – LEDAIG 10 YO

Nose

the opening is simple and well balanced, with soft peat notes, beyond which a feeling of salted butter can be perceived. Very coastal in its mineral notes. Distant balsamic notes, mainly mint. The sweetness is in the background, maybe just a hint of vanilla.

Palate

it asserts its medium body and a rather savory spicy entrance, with briny marine notes that blend with those of smoked wood on the palate. The alcoholic component appears to be well integrated.

Finish

the finish is of medium length, with notes of salted butter, smoky peat, and spices, which are milder than on the palate, with also a fresher feeling (lemon and ginger). There is also a slightly bitter herbaceous note of licorice.

Ledaig 10yo is a particularly clean whisky, dominated by the medium intensity notes of peat, characterized by a smoky and coastal character. It is a dry and, at times, herbal and almost balsamic single malt, with a dimension of freshness that becomes pleasant in the finish. The aromatic intensity is not at the highest level, but the overall result is pleasant and projects with great evocative capacity on the coasts of the Island of Mull.
