H. Upmann Upmann No.2

H. Upmann Upmann No.2

H. Upmann Upmann No.2 1600 900 Giuseppe Mitolo

The H. Upmann Upmann No.2 is the only survivor of the brand’s number series. There were in fact five sizes, identical in size to the Montecristo numerical series. The No.3 and No.5 were discontinued in the 1980s, while the Upmann No.1 and No.4 went out of production in 2002. The No.2 is a Piramide that has always been sold in Semi Plain Boxes.

H. Upmann Upmann No.2

The cigar comes dressed in a bright and marbled Colorado shaded wrapper, with a reddish tone. To the touch, it is smooth and with medium veins. Construction and filling are more than good.

H. Upmann Upmann No.2

H. Upmann Upmann No.2: on the nose, the aromas are very light. However, notes of wood, spices, and nuts are delivered.

H. Upmann Upmann No.2

The opening is sweet, enriched by hints of hot spices that last only a few seconds after the cigar is lit. Spices, pink pepper, and vegetal tones emerge, with the addition of a slight note of fresh (or green) wood. In some puffs, the smoke is a bit astringent. Strength is medium-light (2/5).

In the central section, the sweetness loses its intensity, while a sapid flavor emerges. The aromas evolve slightly, with the vegetal note remaining unchanged, the fresh wood that increases in vigor, and the addition of a touch of leather. Strength increases to medium (3/5).

In the last third, the cigar develops aromas of fresh wood, nuts, and earth, all of equal intensity. Strength remains unchanged (3/5).

The H. Upmann Upmann No.2 is a good product, albeit not very representative of the brand, compared to the Magnum 46 or the Sir Winston. In particular, the flavor profile focuses on a small circle of aromas, which, however, are well defined and recognizable. Vegetal and “green” tones lead us to believe that a bit more resting time would make it a less rustic smoke.
