Delamain XO Pale & Dry

Delamain XO Pale & Dry

Delamain XO Pale & Dry 1600 899 Kaarel Kluge

The Delamain XO Pale & Dry is an XO cognac made coming from Grande Champagne, and despite being aged for about 25 years, this is the youngest cognac in the Delamain rangeIt is made from Ugni Blanc and Colombard grapes. That said, as the name suggests, even if the aging is prolonged, the color is not that dark, because the eaux-de-vie is matured in very old casks.

TASTING NOTES – DELAMAIN XO PALE & DRY

Nose

fresh, with notes of green apples, candied orange peel, and some lemonade. Then vanilla and oak spices. Good but it doesn’t feel like 25 years old.

Palate

Solid arrival, rather fresh. There are apple juice, very strong calvados notes and dried fruits, mainly apricots. There is also a nuttiness to it. Salted caramel, liquorice, and some varnished wood follow. Very good mouthfeel, better than what the nose suggested.

Finish

Medium persistence. Vanilla, liquorice, and some tannic bitterness. Dry.

Overall, the Delamain XO Pale & Dry delivers a fresh dram. It doesn’t feel weak despite the low ABV. The finish is maybe a touch too oaky.
