Davidoff Escurio Corona Gorda

Davidoff Escurio Corona Gorda

Davidoff Escurio Corona Gorda 300 180 Giuseppe Mitolo

The Corona Gorda is the latest addition to the Escurio line of the famous Dominican brand. Blend-wise it is the same mix of tobaccos already used for the previous sizes.

The wrapper is of a Colorado tonality, more matte then the usual. Slightly rough to the touch, with some evident veining, but not to pronounced. Workmanship, usually perfect in Davidoff products, appears to be somewhat below average this time, with the filling of the foot being less curated than the rest of the cigar.

Davidoff Escurio Corona Gorda: flavors perceived in the cold draw recall coffee and light notes of wood and ripe fruits. The cigar starts out distinctly sweet, with a nice mix of coffee, white pepper, vegetal and slightly woodsy. Smoke is quite smooth. Combustion nor draw show any defects and the strength is on a medium -light register (2/5).

The middle section of this Corona Gorda impresses with a complex aromatic palette, based around strong flavors such as spices and cocoa, paired with balsamic and vegetal hints, particularly refreshing. The sweetness, on the contrary, decreases in intensity making room to some saltiness, that enriches the imprint on the palate. Strength increases by a bit, becoming medium (3/5).

In the final third, the further evolution takes on, next to the sweetness, an Umami kind of taste. The flavors, on the other hand, are denoted by an explosion of cocoa, supported by spices and vegetal notes. Towards the finish of this last third appears a well marked walnut note. Strength stays unchanged (3/5).

Overall, this Corona Gorda presents a balanced and complex smoke that doesn’t bore the smoker, which applies to the evolution as well. Perhaps, if you want to find a flaw, is that the aromatic persistency is a bit subdued. However, the strong point of this cigars is the capability to concentrate contrasting aromatic notes with a strength never over the top.
