Strathisla 1997/2017 Cadenhead’s – 175th Anniversary

Strathisla 1997/2017 Cadenhead’s – 175th Anniversary 800 450 Federico Bosco

Strathisla 1997/2017 Cadenhead’s – 175th Anniversary has several peculiarities to take into account. It is a scotch from the Strathisla distillery, not very well known, and in this case the bottle comes from a single cask. The barrel was selected by Cadenhead’s, an impressive independent Scottish bottler, and sold at cask strength to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the company’s establishment. The ex-Bourbon Hogshead barrel contained whisky from 1997, that was aged for 20 years and bottled in 2017.

TASTING NOTES STRATHISLA 1997/2017 CADENHEAD’S – 175TH ANNIVERSARY

Nose: spicy beginning of black pepper and saffron. Hay and leather scents introduce apricot and vanilla jam, then yellow apple and strawberry. Well balanced and pretty complex on the nose.

Palate: paprika and black pepper in the beginning, then sugary tips on the tongue. Fruity notes, Williams pear, apricot and strawberry, to finish with orange jam and vanilla. Intensity increasing. Cereal biscuits in the end.

Finish: intense, of medium in persistence. Candied orange peel, white pepper, yellow fruit and vanilla.

Overall, the Strathisla 1997/2017 Cadenhead’s – 175th Anniversary is a gentle product, the notes are well blended and the intensity is decent. It is not particularly complex, especially on the palate, but it is still a good whisky.
